Abstract

The structure of Cryphonectria parasitica populations was evaluated in the Štiavnicko-krupinská subpopulation in Slovakia. Among 215 isolates, four vegetative compatibility groups (vcg) were detected that correspond to the European vc groups EU-12, EU-2, EU-13 and EU-8. The number of vcg at single sites varied between one and four. One vc group (EU-12) predominated in the Štiavnicko-krupinská subpopulation; it comprised 93% of all isolates and was found at each site. Two vcg were represented by only one or two isolates. The observed vcg frequencies were compared with expected vcg frequencies. The ?² test showed that the observed vcg frequencies differed significantly from the frequencies expected under random mating.
